Counterproductive?

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has locked out production staff, and they're responding by podcasting. On the one hand, this is an interesting example of how the means of production are no longer under the control of management but rather distributed across the entire Internet population. On the other hand, if this action is successful, it advertises podcasting -- and that's probably not going to benefit the production workers in the short term. Those 5500 production jobs exist primarily because the means of production have been concentrated for so long. What happens to them when amateurs can produce their own podcasts for free?
